A large number of virtual tape drives and magnetic tape cartridges are emulated within this virtual archive but with the performance of a hard disk. The virtual magnetic tape cartridges also are not subjected to any mechanical stresses, i.e. the servers no longer have to take any possible start/stop operation into consideration.
